P0817 – Starter Cut Relay System Vehicles with AS&G system MMC Colt



OPERATION

  • Battery voltage is applied to the starter cut relay (terminal No. 1 and No. 3).
  • Engine-ECU (terminal No. 116) applies current to the starter cut relay coil by turning ON the power transistor in the unit in order to turn the relay ON.
  • When the starter cut relay turns ON, battery voltage is supplied by the starter cut relay (terminal No. 3) to the starter cut relay (terminal No. 115). The battery voltage is supplied to the engine-ECU (terminal No. 115) to monitor the operational status of the starter cut relay.

  • FUNCTION

  • The engine-ECU monitors the operational status of the starter cut relay.

  • TROUBLE JUDGMENT

  • 2 seconds later after the ignition switch has been in “ON” position or the engine has started up.
  • The battery voltage is supplied to the starter cut relay monitor terminal for 10 seconds.

  • PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Failed starter cut relay
  • Shorted starter cut relay circuit, or connector damage
  • Failed engine-ECU

  • DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

    STEP 1. Connector check: B-205 starter cut relay connector

    Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 2. Check starter cut relay.

    Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 3. Connector check: A-09 engine-ECU connector

    Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 4. Perform voltage measurement at A-09 engine-ECU connector.

  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Voltage between terminal No. 116 and earth.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

  • Check signal line for short circuit.
  • STEP 5. Check harness between B-205 (terminal No. 4) starter cut relay connector and A-09 (terminal No. 115) engine-ECU connector.

  • Check power supply line for short circuit.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 6. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code

  • Reconfirmation of diagnosis code.
  • Q. Is diagnosis code set?
