P0335 – Crank Angle Sensor System MMC Colt



OPERATION

  • Power is supplied to the crank angle sensor (terminal No. 3) from the engine control relay (terminal No. 4) and is earthed to the engine-ECU (terminal No. 28) from the crank angle sensor (terminal No. 1).
  • A power voltage of 5 V is applied to the crank angle sensor output terminal (terminal No. 2) from the engine-ECU (terminal No. 13).

  • FUNCTION

  • The crank angle sensor detects the crank angle (position) and inputs a pulse signal to the engine-ECU.
  • In response to the signal, the engine-ECU controls the injector, etc.

  • TROUBLE JUDGMENT

  • While engine is being cranked.
  • Crank angle sensor output voltage has not been changed (no pulse signal has been input) for 2 seconds.

  • PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Failed crank angle sensor
  • Open or shorted crank angle sensor circuit, harness damage, or connector damage
  • Failed engine-ECU

  • DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

    STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list

  • Item No. 3: Crank angle sensor
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 2. Connector check: A-125 crank angle sensor connector

    Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 3. Perform voltage measurement at A-125 crank angle sensor connector.

  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Ignition switch: ON
  • Voltage between terminal No. 2 and earth.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 4. Perform voltage measurement at A-08 engine-ECU connector.

  • Disconnect engine-ECU connector, and connect special tool power plant ECU check harness (MB991987), and then measure the voltage on the check connector.
  • Disconnect A-125 crank angle sensor connector.
  • Ignition switch: ON
  • Voltage between terminal No. 13 and earth.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 5. Connector check: A-08 engine-ECU connector

    Q. Is the check result normal?

  • Check output line for open circuit.
  • STEP 6. Connector check: A-08 engine-ECU connector

    Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 7. Check harness between A-125 (terminal No. 2) crank angle sensor connector and A-08 (terminal No. 13) engine-ECU connector.

  • Check output line for short circuit.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 9. Perform voltage measurement at A-125 crank angle sensor connector.

  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Ignition switch: ON
  • Voltage between terminal No. 3 and earth.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 10. Connector check: B-206 engine control relay connector

    Q. Is the check result normal?

  • Check power supply line for open/short circuit.
  • STEP 11. Perform resistance measurement at A-125 crank angle sensor connector.

  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Resistance between terminal No. 1 and earth.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 12. Connector check: A-08 engine-ECU connector

    Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 13. Check harness between A-125 (terminal No. 1) crank angle sensor connector and A-08 (terminal No. 28) engine-ECU connector.

  • Check earthing line for open circuit and damage.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 14. Perform output wave pattern measurement at A-125 crank angle sensor connector (Using an oscilloscope).

  • Use special tool test harness (MB991709) to connect connector, and measure at pick-up harness.
  • Engine: Idling
  • Transmission: Neutral
  • Voltage between terminal No. 2 and earth.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 15. Connector check: B-206 engine control relay connector

    Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 16. Check harness between A-125 (terminal No. 3) crank angle sensor connector and B-206 (terminal No. 4) engine control relay connector.

  • Check power supply line for damage.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 17. Connector check: A-08 engine-ECU connector

    Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 18. Check harness between A-125 (terminal No. 2) crank angle sensor connector and A-08 (terminal No. 13) engine-ECU connector.

  • Check output line for damage.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 19. Connector check: B-220 starter control relay connector and A-09 engine-ECU connector

    Q. Are the check results normal?

    STEP 20. Check harness between B-220 (terminal No. 4) starter control relay connector and A-09 (terminal No. 120) engine-ECU connector.

  • Check output line for open/short circuit and damage.
  • Q. Is the check result normal?

    STEP 21. Check the crankshaft sensing ring.

    Q. Is the check result normal?
